Richard was born in the Wairarapa and raised in Taranaki. Attended New Plymouth Boys High School - taught art by the late Tom Kreisler. Studied sculpture at Elam with lecturers Greer Twiss, Christine Hellyar and Phil Dadson. Directed Star Art Gallery, Karangahape Road, 1986 - 1991. Member of Medal Art NZ. Instigated and helped guide Sculpture in the Gardens 2007 - 2019. Owns and operates an art installation business, curates the occasional sculpture show and makes sculpture. Richard and his family live in Mangere Bridge, South Auckland.
